Winging it Canyon Sin Nombre to Fish Creek Wash

Post by dionysius » Sun Oct 10, 2010 6:56 am

Saturday was a really nice day, the weather not too hot for a desert trip. Went up the S2 to Sweeney Pass to take the trail from Canyon Sin Nombre but found I had left my maps on the table at home. No problem, just tried to remember the trip from Borregofest 2007.

With a couple of wrong turns it turned out to be a great ride. Lots of interesting collapses in the wash and Sandstone Canyon. Surprised more didn't come down with the recent shaking.

Found a really wet spot in Vallecito wash (one of the wrong turns). Reminded me of the spot John got stuck in years ago. Spoke with the park ranger and he said someone was stuck in there for three days.

Nice Dennis. That run is never boring. Glad you made your way through safely. I recognize nearly all of those spots you took a picture of. Did you run into the BF prerun group out there anywhere? Still waiting on that report.

No, did see anyone familiar out there. Couldn't raise John and his group by radio when we got into Ocotillo that morning, but I'm only using a CB.

Really nice day, hope you have good weather for the Borregofest this year.

Looks like you had a nice run there. I love that area.

Yeah, we didn't pick anyone else up on CB out there.

My report is in the works an will be completed once I pick up a part for my Jeep and run back to Jacumba to fix it. On our way home it seemed that the brake booster was having serious issues, so I got a lift home from Zam15 (Derek).

That looks like a real scenic trip. How is the trail rating?

Easy to moderate. The trick is not getting lost in the process. It's wise to have a guide your first time out.

That reminds me... This is part of my run for BorregoFest. :D ;)

Remember, take the second left for the drop off. The ranger was complaining the signs are missing again.

We noticed that when we were out there a few weeks ago, There are more paths up the second drop off than ever. It's disappointing. Crap like that gets stuff closed down.
