For All The FJ'S

Post by ssc » Tue Oct 12, 2010 2:34 pm

As Borregofest approaches, don't forget to change/service your in cabin air filter. I suspect it will be dusty out there and a clean filter is helpful and keeps everyone a bit more comfortable. Ollie did a nice info some time back. http://www.oausa.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1488
It only takes 2 minutes at most to change. I just bought a wix at carquest for $17.00. It is labeled carquest but made by wix. My investigation seems to indicate that wix makes a good filter. The parts number for my 07 FJ:
Carquest: 89875
Wix: 24875
frahm: CF9846A
OEM: 87139-47010-83.

I would caution you about going to your local dealer. Many sell this part for $34-$48. There are online dealers who do sell them for $15. I think if you review some of the vendors on the blue forum, you can find a dealer who charges a fair price. It is located behing your glove box. Open the glove box. Remove the contents. Remove the strut on the right side of the box, by squeezing the plastic slotted tip and pull the strut off. Then slightly squeeze the glove box and it will rotate down. The filter holder is then visible. Remove gently and replace filter.

Thanks for the reminder. Filter is sitting in the corner waiting to be installed...

Another suggestion (credit to Ollie for this one):

Instead of purchasing a filter from the auto parts shop, go to a home improvement store and buy a carbon lined home A/C filter. You can get one hat is 24"X 30" or so for about $20-$25, and not only does it have superior filtering ability, it filters out odors as well. And one filter can be cut into 4+ cabin-sized filters, saving money, too...

This is the info for the Wix filters. I have no clue what all this means or what is just ad material, but upon changing to this filter, you could smell a difference. Even the wife noticed it smelled fresh. Maybe it was just that I had taken my monthly shower. :D
