Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assn

The CMSA was having a meet today at the range-Raahauge's in Corona. Though I don't regret getting rid of my horses, it is fun to watch. The guns are single action revolvers. They are Cowboy guns and must be cocked in order to fire. They are shooting blanks and the burning black powder is expelled from the end of the barrel and causes the balloons to burst. In the following pictures, you can see the rider taking aim and then the gun fire--notice the yellow ball of flame and then the balloon is gone.

cocking, aiming, firing at a full gallop?!? pretty impressive. what other challenges were there?

Sean,
It is horsemanship, gun handling and training all in one. They have different courses of fire. Barrel racing to a certain degree. You have to be able to handle your horse and get around the course and aim, fire and after 5 rounds, holster and draw your second gun and repeat. Lots of fun.

Recoiless guns, eh? I guess with real live ammo, everyone would have to be in a bunker. Interesting!
