Prospecting Trailer Build

I was given a basket case of a trailer and turned it into something that I could use on extended prospecting trips. At a cost of only a few hundred dollars out of pocket it was way cheeper than buying something plus it fit my needs perfectly. It is big enough to hold all of my stuff but small enough to be light and nimble. The tounge is long enough that I can Jacknife it without hitting my rear bumber. The original registration was dated in the early 1950's. I love the results.

Nicely done. That original frame has an interesting shape to it, any idea if there was a functional reason for that when it was first built?

I believe that the original trailer was constructed from a late forties or early fifties donor automobile. It looks like they would take the donor vehicle (whatever it was) and tear everything down to the frame. The C Channel frame would then be cut up in such a way that all of the pieces could be welded back together into the trailer. I believe that the original leaf springs are re-used as well as the front axle and spindles. The tie rods are then welded together and then welded to the frame to keep the wheels straight. After that they would just attach a trailer hitch and bolt on the plywood.

Looks like a frame out of an early 40s chevy pickup. I think those frames were straight like that without a bend in the rear for the rear axle. The drop axle would match too. Just a guess.
