Carveacre Road/Pancake Rock & La Posta Truck Trail
Sat. Jan. 29th, 2011

This was the day there was to be estrogen overload at my house from my wife's baby shower. It was with this in mind, my father-in-law, Mike and his uncle, Jerry and I decided to head out to a few trails close to home. Jerry has had his 2006 Jeep Rubicon for only a few months now and has been wanting me to show him around a few of the trails I'm familiar with. So far, he's only been in a few sandy washes around Anza-Borrego. Carveacre Road was to be the toughest trail he's been on.

Airing down along the road.

Starting up the trail. Notice the hikers on his tail. That's how slow he was going.

He was very impressed with his Jeep's ability.

The climb up Pancake Rock gave him a bit of pause.

View on out towards Lake Barrett.

Coming down.

On our way to "Little Moab".

Coming down, I let Mike take the wheel.

This was his first time driving a Jeep.

Now on our way to La Post Truck Trail.

The elevation here is 5400 ft.

We soon finished up the trail and hit the highway towards home. It was a nice day spent on the trails. I enjoyed showing Jerry what his Jeep was capable of and look forward to seeing his confidence and experience grow with each new trail.

Awesome John. It's always great to see newcomers reactions to that trail. Wish i could have been there.

I'm sure Jerry will be getting out with me more often. Well, that is if I can find the time now.

The funny thing is that his wife was so jealous that he got to take the Jeep out while she was at the baby shower.

Now he's talking about getting a lift, armor, etc. I told him its very easy to get carried away, as Jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket!

Nice. Looks like a fun afternoon. From the pics it looks like you guys turned right coming off the rock and continued down the trail, yes? Where does that go? Last time I was up there, we went back down the same way we came up.

It goes about 100 yards then comes to a "T" junction. If you turn right you drive about 3 miles and come to a closed gate. If you trun left you drive about a mile or so and come to an area we call "Little Moab". It's an area of a bunch of slick rock to play on. Then you come back out the way you came in.

Ah. Didn't realize it just looped back around. I'd like to get back there and check it out sometime.
