2-10-2011 OAUSA Net - Lighting

Post by cruiserlarry » Tue Feb 08, 2011 12:33 pm

This week's net will be about lighting - Types of lighting systems (tungsten, halogen, xenon / high intensity discharge [HID], light emitting diode [LED]), lens types and materials, reflector styles, applications for different types of lights, benefits / drawbacks to each type, and a general discussion of experiences with lights in real world use...

We look forward to everyone's participation - this is a great opportunity to share your experience and provide feedback on all things involving automotive / off-road lighting and lighting systems.

Well.....it's been a long time coming, but we are finally there. Tonight's net will be transmitted (via IRLP) from the KA6UAI Repeater on Palomar Mountain. This should give us coverage for the greater San Diego area.

KA6UAI Repeater details:
449.300
- offset
100.0 PL

Note: This will probably not be the only SD repeater we will use, but it should give us a great start. Please check in and let us know how the reception is in your area.

Sounds great on Palamar! I'm getting full quiet here in North Park about 43 miles from the repeater! Thank you so much for getting this going!

Thanks for the positive feedback, Willie...the IRLP system is brand new, and will take a little "dialing in" before it's 100%....so it seems we're off to a good start.

Now we need to get the word out to our fellow members and amateurs in the San Diego area that the OAUSA net can now be accessed from their area every Thurday night @ 7:30pm...

Thanks Willie!

Even with a couple of hic-ups last night, everything went very well. Your input is just what we will need to get the right coverage for the San Diego area. The more we thought about it, the more we realized that we may need a couple of repeaters in San Diego to bring everyone in. Additionally, we will work on getting a 2 meter repeater working as well.

Last night's net went very well with 46 check-ins. And, as Larry mentioned, we will be getting the word out about our new coverage.
