Portable comms.

Post by gon2srf » Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:58 pm

Last night my wife and I took our dog out for a hike at a local park in Newport Coast. This is a beautiful spot with 200' views of Mt. Baldy, Santiago Peak and the Pacific Ocean. The location is 33' 36" 19.46 N 48' 06.52 W. Elevation 1008 ft. I ran into a guy who had a mobile HAM set-up and was picking up and transmitting clearly to Hawaii and I beleive he said Japan. His name was Dennis, I gave him our URL hopefully he'll sign up and post a hello.

Nice find, Scott...

From what I've heard, the HF bands have been extremely active to Japan and points west recently.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear really bright, until they start talking

That is so cool. I hope he signs up, he seemed really knowledgeable. It was so beautiful yesterday, I could clearly see San Clemente Island 65 miles from my location and the San Gabriel Mountain Range does not get prettier than that!
