Great write up and pics, Scott !!! You really did this trip justice with your camera and narrative :D

I would like to thank Ollie for putting this trip together, and for the extra time and effort he dedicated to making sure both noobs and old-timers had plenty to see and do - an outstanding trip by any measure. Thanks to everyone who kept me fed for the 3 days; special kudos to Ben for the amazing stews, and to Scott for the terrific chili and always spectacular Dutch oven Apple Cobbler. Since this trip took place over Mark and Ollie's B-days, we had a little celebration time, too - thanks to Mark's parents for the Twinkies (or as they are now known - Mojave Birthday Cakes).

The weather was fantastic, the blooms were all around us, and the only real carnage was a broken windshield, a flat tire, and 2 blown rear shocks - all on Martin and Vanessa's rented Wrangler JK

While I've been on the Mojave Trail many times, this was the first time I had the opportunity to try out the Chocolate shake at the Kelso Railroad Depot - and let me assure everyone, it will not be the last time - one of the best ever, anywhere !!! :D

I would also like to thank the Mojave Green for not going after any of us, and allowing us to snap some pics that even made the Ranger at Hole in the Wall visitor center nervous.... :o

Great pictures! It really makes me want to go again.

How was the Mojave River crossing by Afton campground?

Unfortunately, it has basically been eliminated - there is a gravel path bridge, with the water diverted a bit. I'm sure the recent rains created some treacherous conditions, and that this was done to prevent possible tragedy - but I hope it goes back to how it was when the season is long gone...

Terrific photography.

It looks like you-all caught the East Mojave at one of the most perfect times of the year. It's one of the most spectacular areas in the Southwest!
