4/28/11 Overland Expo Report (Cooking and Kitchen Gear)

Post by NotAMog » Mon Apr 25, 2011 9:06 am

There was a wide array of kitchen and cooking gear on display. Here is a sample.

Bundu Gear was showing some very interesting kitchen kit from South Africa. Here is a picture of their kitchen box with fitted place settings and a Cadac Safari Chef cooker.

Here are the Bundu Gear kitchen tool rolls. These look like a great idea for folks who cook outside of their rigs and have a roof rack from which to hang them.

Bundu Gear Cadac cookers. These are very versatile cookers with multiple interchangeable cooking surfaces and lids which serve multiple functions. They are reasonably priced too. The small table top unit is a Safari Chef. The larger one with legs is the Carri Chef. He is holding the skottel (shallow South African wok) from the Carri Chef. The dirt on the skottel was from the previous day's dust storm.

Here is the very well built Kanz field kitchen. It has the same form factor as an Engel refrigerator so you can use it with an Engel slide in the back of your vehicle. There are also two different length legs available for stand alone use.

Here is an interesting new slide out kitchen set up from Warfield Offroad. The sink and stove are from SMEV in Italy. SMEV has some very cool (and very expensive) rv appliances but unfortunately they are very difficult to obtain in the U.S.

Here is a shot from the one pot cooking class. The instructor was using a Kanz field kitchen in the instruction tent.

This is the Overland Gourmet kitchen setup. They held various cooking classes during the weekend. The kitchen was outfitted with all Snow Peak gear. It was a good chance to see that cool Snow Peak gear in use.

A picture from the Snow Peak display showing their Dutch ovens and camping fireplace. Certainly a different design from the American dutch ovens.

For those not familiar with Snow Peak, they are a Japanese maker of camping equipment. It is definitely designed with a different perspective than most of the camping gear we are use to seeing from Western companies. Their designs are very cool, very elegant, and unfortunately, very expensive.
