Catalina Island 4TH of July

Post by ssc » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:55 pm

Just got back from Catalina. Nice weather. I notice the pictures posted here are set up different than in the past. I will try to downsize a bit and hope it doesn't goof up.

Cheers, Steve

Great pics Steve. I noticed that the pics are posting differently too. I don't know why either. :?

I love Catalina for the 4th of July, in my opinion it is one of the best shows! Do you have a boat or somewhere on the island?

Hi Ollie,
I hope you can figure out the issue with the pictures. SM, they put on a good show. A buddy of mine is in charge of the display. The first shot had a combination of rockets, plus, they always have a goof up that explodes on the dock. That is the picture with all the red. I gave up hanging around the mole when they light them. :D I might not understand your question. Are you asking from where I took the pictures? If so, from pebley road past lovers cove. Too much movement from a boat. Sold our boat we had in Catalina a few years ago--have the LTC in Havasu. We have had our place on the Island since 72. Though I still enjoy the Island, it has changed--and not for the better.

Cheers, Steve

Wow since 72!? That is awesome, and I do agree that the island has definitely changed. Where abouts is your place? My step dad has a boat and we always stay in Shark Harbor on the back side of two harbors, a lot less populated and less commercialized.

Excellent photos. Much more interesting than mine with Avalon as a backdrop. I wish I could go there for the 4th, but the flyer leaves in the afternoon, and I don't want to pay what they are charging for a b&b over there. Your a fortunate man.

Hey Braden,
They usually add late boats for the 4th. I can't promise anything, but we can usually get discounted rates at various hotels due to having a residence. Let me know if you are interested. Our place is at Canyon Terrace. Since you enjoy camping, they have a nice campground--Hermit Gulch in Avalon. There are other campgrounds as well. http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/avalon/Camping.php
