I keep trying to be optimistic but......
A lot of people worked real hard getting this website up and running. Where is everyone, this place is a ghost town? Did the price of gas do this?

Re: I keep trying to be optimistic but......
Wouldn't doubt it. I know the price of gas has kept me from all but the closest trails, Scott.gon2srf wrote:A lot of people worked real hard getting this website up and running. Where is everyone, this place is a ghost town? Did the price of gas do this?

Re: I keep trying to be optimistic but......
Unfortunately, the economy is in the dumps, gas prices are ridiculous, and a lot of folks have temporarily abandoned their hobbies in favor of paying rent and eating...so timing has definitely been an issue.gon2srf wrote:A lot of people worked real hard getting this website up and running. I know I talk to lots of people all day, and most are not traveling, or engaging in any activity that uses up the cash right now. Most of us who were going out every week or two last year have hardly ventured out at all this year.
Also, many people faded when the ADV4X4 site crashed the first time, and have never been back. Many more never gave this site a chance. Even the Blue forum, with 20,000 plus members, has virtually no activity directly related to 4wd issues - lots of birthday wishes, stuff for sale, and many threads related to the recent summit, which will now fade away too.
So it'll be up to us hard core buddies to try and continue to post up and generate interest for others to view and add to. I know I'm trying hard to get people involved here, but financial issues make everything else hard for most people, and we're feeling the effects here, too...
I hope you are willing to stick it out for a while - I enjoy the company !!!

Just think about how much less crowded the trails will be.

Re: I keep trying to be optimistic but......
That's one of the few benefits from the current gas price situation. It certainly has helped reduce my commute time to work, by about 20 minutes each way every day. Almost worth $5 a gallon to get all those vehicles off the roads. Probably reduce damage and maintenance of the trails, too...traveltoad wrote:Just think about how much less crowded the trails will be.

Seriously, you have seen that drastic a change in your commute times? That is amazing!cruiserlarry wrote:That's one of the few benefits from the current gas price situation. I actually thought the forum might at least see more trivial discussions unrelated to exploring just so we all could stay in touch or at least grovel together.

I have to say that income wise I have been devastated by the sub-prime meltdown and the ensuing economic debacle . Ouch. 29 years in this industry and nothing comes close to this mess. I still have my house but barely and my only wheeling trips now are in the barren BLM lands north of Barstow. My mother in law lives there so we visit and I at least get to put it in 4x4 every few weeks.
Well I'm glad so many of you responded. See you all in August!

Not only is this a good time to keep in touch with each other, if you don't already have your Ham license you now have time to study for it. Then you will have it when you get on the trail.

Any chance she'll adapt another son ? May be my only chance to get away soon, too.gon2srf wrote:My mcruiserlarry wrote:That's one of the few benefits from the current gas price situation. The commute difference is amazing. And on weekends, I drive my wife's Escape Hybrid to save on fuel. Another month and my son heads off to Carnegie Mellon University, so I'll have a Honda Civic to commute with a couple of times a week to help save fuel as well. Won't help sell stuff at the store, but it'll drop my fuel bill a bunch (40 mpg on reg vs. 15 mpg on premium - yeah, that'll help...)

That should help pay for some pencils and books. You did you tell your son that when you get real old, you wanted a first class nursing home, nothing less! You earned it, damn it!Any chance she'll adapt another son ? May be my only chance to get away soon, too.

Re: I keep trying to be optimistic but......
Gas prices dont reduce the amount of traffic a website has. People are at home more, online presence is up ten fold on other websites i hang out on. We all know why nobody is here. Everybody knows what my problem originally was. Too bad we couldnt all stay where everything was perfect. Something happened behind the scenes that most of us will never know about. Its a sad fact. Hopefully people will come around and save this site from the bin.
- too many promises that haven't been fulfilled (website modifications, organizing, etc)
- too many decisions being made without considering the opinions of members who make this group tick
(the board should be keeping us updated on everything having to do with the group)
I gave this site a chance after adv4x4 was abandoned. So far ive seen nothing happen except people talk. We need more action, less saying "things are going to happen".
