IceHouse Canyon to the Three Tee's

Post by gon2srf » Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:58 pm

I decided to up the ante a little bit today and did the San Gabriel Mountains Icehouse Canyon to the Three Tee's Trail today. The route takes you through beautiful Icehouse Canyon up to Saddle Junction and over to Timber Peak, Telegraph Peak and then Thunder Peak (hence the Three Tee's moniker) and back. It's a 16 mile hike with 5800 ft. of total elevation gain out and back. The weather was great: Cool to warm and breezy, a little clearer would have been nice but all and all it was beautiful day. The hike took a little over 7.5 hours. This has got to be one of the most beautiful hikes in Southern California. There is a ton of water running in the river, massive trees, sketchy ultra narrow switchbacks, leg scratching Manzinita filled meadows and best of all spectacular views at the top of each peak, especially Telegraph Peak.

Another great trek Scott. 16 miles in a day is pretty spectacular. :)

Actually I was hiking past those cabins this morning. I drove up last night about 2:00am and spent the night in truck. Go up at 5:00 am and hit the trail at 5:30am. So I would guess I was walking by the cabins from about 5:45 till 6:00am in the dark with my Petzel light. That kinda freaks me out. :o

I'm post a Trip Report in a minute.
