Here are the pictures of the Geologists' Cabin and Striped Butte.
This is the Geologists' Cabin. As you can see from the flag it was very windy. A couple of people in are party slept inside that evening. It was nice to have a solid cabin to retreat to for dinner that night.
This is Striped Butte as viewed from the back of the Geologists' Cabin. This picture was taken about noon shortly after we arrived.
Here it is again in the late afternoon. The face is easily recognizable looking like something from Easter Island. I've also heard it described as the ogre in Striped Butte.
The crazy geology of Death Valley is one of it's biggest attractions. There is an incredible variety of geology in a relatively small area. You can really get an appreciation of it when you visit the area off pavement and get into the back country. It's also surprising how much water there actually is in Death Valley with small springs hidden in the surrounding mountains and canyons. There is a spring directly below the Geologists' Cabin.
