Greetings from San Diego!

Post by Railsplitter » Sun Jan 15, 2012 5:09 pm

I'm known for off-roading in 10-ton tractors, in unusual locations nationwide... I'll post some photos after the football game. Also big on small craft sailing, technical rock climbing, remote camping on BLM land and overnight voyages to island summits offshore (Islas Los Coronados, where I go when I REALLY want to get away from "civilization"---lol). Just checking in to post those shots I mentioned, since you adventure tour folks will certainly appreciate them. As soon as the fourth quarter ends at Lambeau, I'll fire up the other computer (has the photos stored in it) and show you a different method of off-roading... lol. Borrego Wrangler, you must be busy with those Peninsular Bighorns this time of year!!! Folks call me "The Railsplitter" when they're not mad at me, which is why you'll never hear my handle, "10-4?" Adios, I'll be back in short order to post those photos I mentioned.

Can't do that, since I'm wanted in 48 states and 3 Canadian provinces... I posted a few shots in that "Photography" thread, just random outdoor adventure shots taken here and there. I have a whole heap of outdoor photos posted at TRUCKFORUM.ORG in that thread entitled "Got Chrome??? How about Armor???" Most of 'em were scanned from old paper photographs, then "cropped and resized" (a process which I loathe with a passion), so bear with me... the cropping and resizing gets better as you progress through the thread. There are some cool shots in that thread. Got some other shots posted at that site, including albums on my profile page, but I never bothered cropping and resizing those. I suppose I should set up some kind of profile page here at this site... seems like there are quite a few Borrego hands here. I love that place, but I also love Carveacre Road and Lawson Peak, McCain Valley (it's a shame what's happening there), the Lowenbrau Pinnacle, Valley of the Moon (before it was trashed by illegal immigrants and Border Patrol---another sign of the times), etc., etc. You can see some cool shots of all those places at that other site. On a national level, I'm really drawn to central and southern UT... some beautiful country there, even if it is a bit desolate. In this day and age, desolate is good!!! Of course, I'm still living in the Stone Age, unlike many of the hands here. My friends and I use smoke signals to communicate in the wilderness, if that tells you anything. Well, I woke early, so maybe I'll go see what I can do about setting up some kind of profile page. "ADIOS!!!"

Hey, welcome to the forum! Looks like you frequent a lot of areas we enjoy as well. So, do you drive anything else besides a 10 ton tractor?

Nothing special, not even the tractor... been goin' through the wringer recently and had to ditch many possessions. A long story, so I'll keep it short: I was falsely accused by this crooked D.A. here in Dago County, and even though I backhanded that scrub in her own rigged courtrooms, my life hasn't been the same since. That whole fiasco took about a year-and-a-half, wasting heaps of tax dollars in the process, with the crooked cops (proven to be liars in my case) keeping their badges, jobs, pensions, etc. The whole raw deal really took the wind out of my sails, I can tell ya that much... people tell me I "won" the case (while defending myself---go figure), but in reality I lost everything. The only reason I'm posting anything at this site is to remind myself of how life was before I crossed paths with those badge-sportin' greaseballs. I might add that I hail from a nautical family (CDRs, USN Submarine Service) with well over a century of combined military and judicial service to this country. I personally served in the Infantry, so I don't take kindly to liars with badges attempting to deprive me of my freedom, which I value very highly. I'm also local, born right here on "The Rock"---my best friend's family owned and operated the first and oldest surf shop in Coronado for 35 years, so "it ain't my first day out when it comes to wilderness adventure." That's my story in a nutshell, and the photographic record can be found at the site mentioned in my introductory thread. I guess I'm still harboring a lot of anger over the criminal public-fund-wastin' fiasco, try as I have to unload that anger and move forward. Just seeing normal people engaging in regular wilderness adventures, like many members clearly do at this site, is like some kind of "therapy" for me, I reckon. Enough said, it'll all be the same in 100 years... the trick is to rebuild my life and get back out there in the wilderness where I belong.

Railsplitter:

Welcome!

Wheeling a 10 ton tractor, eh. Impressive! And I thought mine was heavy.

Glad to have you join us.

The only drawback to off-roading in a 10-ton tractor: 20-foot Baja drop-offs are out of the question, as they tend to crater the landing zone. Seriously, ya hafta be careful while trashing around in the big truck, avoiding deep sand and nasty ruts, but it can be done and it certainly makes a statement... You can see some cool truck camping shots at TRUCKFORUM.ORG in that thread entitled "Got Chrome??? How about Armor???" The thread appears under "General Truck Forum"---there are shots on my cheesy profile page at that site, but I never bothered to crop and resize them (a process which I loathe with a passion). Say, you'll see a comical shot somewhere in there, a shot of a red International stuck in a rut atop Otay Mountain... took us about three hours to dig our way out of that one, using an Army E-tool, Gorilla Bar, 22-oz. Vaughn framing hammer and large slot driver (which we used as a chisel to break up the hard stony ground beneath the truck frame). Didn't mean to go off earlier regarding my run-in with the scrub D.A. here in Dago County, feel free to delete that post if it's too "over the top." I must say, I like those lines you posted with your message... I am the living embodiment of those sentiments.
