Re: 2012 Field Day Volunteer Operator and Equipment List
I received the Radiowavz 15m, 20m, and 40m double bazooka dipole antennas today...so we should have plenty of back-up this year.
I heard Hector mentioning demonstrating how to built simple antennas at Summerfest - I think that would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in field communications...

Re: 2012 Field Day Volunteer Operator and Equipment List
things are coming up quick.
The mast system works extremely well in the wind. I used the supplied stakes, with the supplied guy rings and paracord for the guys.
The legs do a lot for stability, but guy lines are necessary. They serve to prevent the mast from tipping to a point where the mast falls over or the tubes pinch and bend. I also used simple snaphooks to secure the lines and to hoist my paracord halyard up and down. I have seen too many pulleys fouled due to not having a good and sustained load on the halyard at all times. any release in tension and the rope falls off the pulley and usually gets fouled between the wheel and frame.
The only additional purchases I made were some paracord, some sandbags to lay over the tripod legs for when the mast is erected, and several snaphooks like this

I'll probably be bringing the cannon to string up antennas in trees in needed.
I'll probably use it to string up the 80M antenna being that I don't see any other way to get it up high enough.
riot gear is recommended for being in close proximity to the cannon while stringing antennas

I'll make sure the air compressor is available.

Any chance Dave, Jon, and I can talk you into picking up a set of whatever else we need (minus the cord) for our masts ? It would definitely save us time figuring out what to use, and where to get it...hmfigueroa wrote:The mast system works extremely well in the wind. I've got my Heil Pro Set (with Yaesu modular adapter and Kenwood 8 pin adapter), and a Heil Traveler Single (with Yaesu modular adapter).DaveK wrote:How many headsets do we have?
( I suggest anyone interested in participating as a radio operator or contact logger, and if you can afford to, consider purchasing a headset. That way, we'll have enough headsets available, you'll have one you are comfortable with, and we'll have headsets for loggers and operators...

Anyone available this weekend? If so what days are available?DaveK wrote:Jon had suggested that we do a dry-run to set up the new masts and that sounded like a good idea. Jon - if you want to see if we can set up a time before FD, let's do it.
Also, should we register on the ARRL website with the location of our event (I'm not referring to the testing)?
