Cleghorn 5-31-08

Post by Sanderhawk » Sat May 31, 2008 5:33 pm

It was a perfect day out on Cleghorn today. It didn`t feel hot but I got one real bad sun burn that i`m just now starting to feel. I met alot of new people today very cool people. Our leader today was McMom and Mcjeep ( I hope I got this right ) McRover was there for a while also. I followed them all day and had a great time. Learned alot had some real good pucker moments and did some runs I never had done before and i`m glad I did. Hair raising at times especially the puckerhill bypass ( just dam that was a ride  ) but I did it and i`m glad I did. Some of the runs weren`t as hard as I was told thats good to know. I met Mr. & Mrs Hardluck very cool people we talked for a while as we aired up the tires. I finally met Bobonel and her friend Lynn (I hope thats right ) I ended my run at hwy 138 as did some of the others on our run, the rest went off to 2n17x and are probly still there. I didn`t take any pictures but i`m sure others did. Thanks to Bobonel for getting this run together it was a blast. I`m already looking forward to out next run.

I could only stay for about half of Cleghorn but had a good time. Very nice to meet the new people and see those that I have shared the trail with before. If this run was an indication of the ones to come, the spirit of "Adventure" will live on.

Im glad you guys had a great time. Im still stuck up in Shasta Lake because the people who were supposed to move in last Tuesday, changed their minds AFTER they moved all their stuff in on Monday. They then whined about their deposit, so we gave them 2/3 of it back. I need to find a renter for our house before we come home, and i think we have a nice couple who wants to move in.

Ill be at the next run for sure, we will be leaving here by the end of the week no matter what.

i'm finally getting around to the computer so heres my report:

IT WAS FANTASTIC! we met at the trail head and were off and running by 9:30. we had 22 vehicles so it was a bit slow moving but we stopped and socialized alot! we did most of the more "adventurous passes". i was so busy driving and talking and socializing that i didnt take many pictures. my friend lynette took 100+ pics so when i get hers (and she has some great ones) i'll post some up. the few pics i do have are of generic cars/trails.......and we've all seen those same shots posted 100x before. the 1 photo i will try to post after i finish my novel here is the GROUP SHOT at the trail head before we headed out.

at the end of cleghorn most took off for home and 5 of us went on to 2n17x which is now my favorite trail in the world. LOVED IT. McJeep and McMom kept us on our toes and most of the time we had 3 tires on the ground. :)

after all the trail runnin---> we headed back to camp and met up with hardluck and his wife, and FJPiper and his 2 kids (who were the best behaved, well mannered children i think i have ever had the pleasure of meeting). we ate steak, pasta, baked potatoes, grilled veggies, bread/cheese, olives, wine, beer, cheladas, smores.......next time we decided we are bringing the fixins for some creme brulee!! we had alot of fun camping. of course there was a family that arrived LATE (drunk of course) and yelled and screamed and carried on until probly close to 3:30ish........needless to say we didnt get much sleep. had a nice breakfast in the AM and broke down camp.

on the way home we HAD to stop at Bass Pro Shop and we were in there for a good 2 hours. love that store.

we were supposed to stop by mcjeeps house to exchange pics but we were so tired i just wanted to get home and melt into my bed!

so once again its been proven: this is an awesome group of folks. a great time was had by all (i hope) and it was nice to get out there and meet some new faces and see some old friends!

I'm a newbie to the off road game (Stock FJ Crusier 4x4, rock rails , OEM skid, locker). Been on a few trails (Trail Team in Big Bear May '08) but never went on my own or spotted for anyone. Considering going up to Cleghorn with a LR3 Rover (stock, also). Wanted to find out if this is a good trail for beginners?

PS. just joined this forum today, was a lurker on adventure 4x4. Really enjoyed the reports and trail photos. Hope to go on some of the future runs from this forum.

Yeah that would be ok I went through it total stock and no rock rails. you can go around any of the obsticals that you don`t feel comfortable doing. just don`t go by yourself if your new to trails incase you need help you have a buddy. I learned that the hard way.
