While shopping at Walmart for a replacement filler spout for my Midwest metal gas cans, I discovered that, apparently, The Plastics Groups, Inc. (http://www.theplasticsgroup.net) manufactures the Midwest 5 gal metal gas can (http://theplasticsgroup.net/fuel_containers_us.php) like the one that Larry at Dirty Parts (http://www.dirtyparts.com) sells, and it is marketed by various companies under several brand names including Hopkins, Briggs, Stratton, WEDCO and Midwest. These various companies, except Midwest, even use the same part/model number that http://www.theplasticsgroup.net lists on their website.
Sears.com even sells the same can (with the same model number) under the brand names of Hopkins, Briggs and Stratton and WEDCO for 4 different prices ranging from $55.00 to $120.00! All on the same Sears.com website.
Larry sells them for $49.95 and usually has them in stock if I remember correctly.
Now on to the replacement filler spouts. If you are out and about and find yourself in need of a replacement spout in a hurry, go to Walmart and in the automotive section where they sell the Briggs and Stratton plastic gas cans, you may find this:
It sells for about $7.00 and it fits the Midwest can perfectly. Apparently, it's the same one that is used on the B&S plastic and metal cans. You can never have enough spare parts.

It looks like The Plastics Group also makes the Roto-Pax fuel containers. Or at least it appears that way to me. Check out the pics:

Roto-Pax: http://www.rotopax.com/
Sure looks like the same containers to me.
Just sayin'

Re: Metal gas can replacement Filler spouts
Check before you buy - The filler spouts made for Briggs and Stratton, and some of the other filler spouts, are not designed for automotive use, but for lawnmower / machinery use. Those fuel spouts are not always long enough to work in many unleaded fuel automotive fuel filler necks...

I checked today and the spouts for B&S are about the same length as the ones that came with the Midwest can. They have a different way of operating but the Midwest and B&S are both CARB compliant spouts which means they're a pain in the ass. Oh well.
Thanks for the heads up, Larry.

Yeah, it's still confusing to me how a spout that vents for 5 sec into the atmosphere emits more hydrocarbons than the half gallon of fuel that gets spilled using those ridiculous CARB-compliant spouts...wb6twl wrote:I checked today and the spouts for B&S are about the same length as the ones that came with the Midwest can. Just for the record, being CARB-compliant does not refer to being suited for automotive use (just means it meets emissions standards for general use) - those spouts were originally designed for farm equipment and lawnmowers, and that's why they may not reach to hit the flap on some auto fuel filler hoses, causing such a mess...

I agree Larry. Just opening the cap of the jerry can will allow offgassing of fumes. I certainly wouldn't travel without a sealed cap on the cans since leaving a spout attached would be inviting catastrophe.
