Newbie returning to 4-wheeling

Post by jack » Wed Oct 09, 2013 9:45 pm

Hi, everyone.

Six months ago, my adult daughter said, "Hey, Dad. Since you loved your Jeep so much in high school (more than a few years ago), why don't you do it again?" After meeting cruiserlarry at Dirty Parts I decided, why not?

The Jeep that my daughter was referring to was, I believe, a 1944 Willys MB U.S. Army Jeep (from World War II). I bought it after my "very cool" '55 Chevy was totaled. So I went from "very cool" to the most "uncool", driving a Jeep at my high school. That is, until I started taking my buddies out into mountains and deserts around Los Angeles. We had a ball, and "cool" no longer mattered.

In those days, there were hardly any restrictions as to where you could go 4-wheeling. And when we got stuck, all we used was a shovel and the four of us - we could lift the Jeep out of anything. I see that the sport has advanced considerably!!

So I was the "inventor" of 4-wheeling, at least at my high school. Larry and I agreed that although I may not be the actual inventor of 4-wheeling, Willys and World War II and I were certainly the forerunners of my new '08 4Runner.

I look forward to meeting you at the BorregoFest, having some fun and learning some of the tricks of the trade.

Jack

Oh how I wish I would have kept it. But after making it out of the desert with a cracked head and burning up the engine, it gave up the ghost and life took over. And that was MANY years ago! Now I just have an ol' 4Runner.
