Dan - KE0DYM - Host of The 4x4 Podcast

Post by jeepin_idaho » Sun May 24, 2015 8:34 pm

Hey guys, I wanted to introduce myself. I've been looking through the forums for a while but I got my callsign about a month ago. Since then I've been listening in on the nets when I can. I got my license for the redundant communication on my big trip soon from Kansas City to Fairbanks, AK. I've been playing around with one of the Baofeng UV-5RA radios and I've been learning a lot. I already know that I want to upgrade to a higher power unit but I don't know what it will be yet.

I also host The 4x4 Podcast where my co-hosts and I discuss all things related to offroading and the outdoor lifestyle. I'm looking forward to particpating in the discussions here and learning more about HAM radio stuff as well.

Cheers!

Dan

Welcome to OAUSA!!!

We're very glad that you are enjoying the nets. Now with your Ham ticket, you can participate. If you let us know the repeaters that serve your area, we can check with them to see if they will allow us to run the nets over their system. Also if you have suggestions for net topics, let us know.

Be sure an post information on your trip to Alaska!! That sounds like a great adventure and perhaps one that we can use for our nets.

Thanks Dave! The other day I was on a local repeater and couldn't believe that I was able to reach out to about 175 miles.... And then I realized that it was a linked repeater. It was still really cool to be able to do that though.

The one suggestion that I have is to make the net recordings available as a podcast. I would love to be able to subscribe and take the recordings with me. I could probably even lend a technical hand if you want to make that a reality.

Dave I think I figured out what repeater serves my area. I can easily reach N0MIJ which is linked to the Central Region Intertie System. It serves the eastern Kansas, Nebraska, and western Missouri area. From what I've read its IRLP reflector node 9330. Is that the info that you need? Don't make a bunch of effort on my part though because I'll be leaving the area in about 3 weeks.

What I really need to figure out is the repeater situation in and around Fairbanks, Alaska!
