OAUSA Net – November 19, 2015 – Destination Death Valley NP

Post by toms » Wed Nov 18, 2015 10:46 am

The official start of the "Season" for Death Valley was October 15th. However, the season started on a disastrous note with a flash flood on Nov 6 and then 2 weeks later a rain event over the Grape vine mountains near Scotty’s castle. Death Valley received in 2 weeks as much rain as they receive in a year.

Right now may not be the best time to visit Death Valley. But they are cleaning up the roads rather quickly. With this much rain the wild flowers will be spectacular in the spring. So this is a good time to plan a spring trip to Death Valley whether by passenger car or 4 Wheel drive.

There is much to take in, see and do either from the pavement or the back roads. Tonight we will go over the flooding and the basic of Death Valley and time permitting talk about some of the history.

For those interested in access to the Saline Valley Warm Springs, you can get in on the North Pass with just one wash out. Reports are you can drive around it with a high clearance vehicle. This picture was posted by someone called Groovydad. Steel pass was ok after the Oct 6 storm but I do not have current info from the Oct 18 storm.
