10 votes ??

Seems a lot of people are more interested in creating issues than trying to solve them....
Thats not a very encouraging way to get people involved. Eventually people who make the fuss are going to get tired of sarcastic treatment like above, and just leave the site altogether.
Maybe. But folks were quick to criticize the look, and I would expect those who are still here (160+) to respond to a request to accomodate their comments just as quickly. And it wasn't sarcasm, it was frustration I was displaying.

I cant help but see that as a stab at a few members who tell it like it is. I see the lack of voting as a lack of participation, not because "people make the site, not the color".
Wow. Another positive comment. Come on, no one is "stabbing" anyone. We have seven dedicated volunteer board members who, to some, can do no right. Give us a break...
justjodi wrote: A. This poll just started a few days ago. Give people time...
B. Perhaps everyone who "complained" about it never came back...

Based on the names on the posts, it seems to be the same folks

justjodi wrote:
C. People want to know that they have a voice and their opinion counts, even if they are also willing to live with stuff as is.

I agree. And that requires participation and positive criticism. And, as you suggest, changes, just like responses, may take some time

To many, the old site was like a worn in, comfortable pair of jeans. Brand new jeans are stiff and uncomfortable until they have been through the wash a few times. Change is also quite difficult for most people. How can you make it easier and enjoyable?

This works both ways - people joining a new site may consider getting used to it first, instead of expecting it to mirror the old site

You really do need a logo and business cards if you want to get more people on the site. The more people are on and use the site, the more people it will attract. I left a scribbled note on a black FJ (rails, lifted, bumper, ham, etc...) this morning. I would have preferred to leave a card.
I absolutely agree. And the board members, along with some volunteers on the site, are working hard to establish a logo and have card printed up for the convenience of all who want to promote the site. Unfortunately, because we are all using free time, and trying to coordinate with others on different schedules, this is taking longer than we hoped it would. We all appreciate the patience and assistance of all those involved, and are doing our best to accommodate this request ASAP

Ahhhhh. Now its all clear. IT IS the color of the site that make it , not the people. Thanks dave for clearing that up.

Now its my turn. Let me tell it like it is. IT'S THE PEOPLE!!!

If this thread don't turn back to constructive comments and dealing with the voting on this topic alone, I will be more than happy to kill or edit it.

...and that is not sarcasm.

Good question... The poll does need to stay. I can just clean up the thread if necessary. ;)

I call a truce.

Let's see if we can constructively work together to see what improvements or changes are possible or practical to upgrade the site's "feel".

I do humbly request that as many folks as possible participate as soon as possible in the poll, to help us move things along....

Thanks :D

That should be easy because really, they are both right...

Ultimately, it is/will be the people who make the site... However, in order to attract the people and encourage the people to participate and use the site, it is things like the color, the format, the content layout and the interface that will make the difference between someone lurking a few times and someone joining and becoming an active member. Your audience is not just a bunch of techies - so you have to work to appeal to a very large group - some who are extremely computer savvy and others that are only really familiar with the basics.

As you mentioned previously Larry, time is a critical factor for everyone. The less intuitive and navigational the site is the less patience most people will have for it and the less time they will want to spend to explore the site and get familiar with it.

No one expects this site to be just like the old site, but there may be expectations that it should be better. Instead of everyone getting defensive because of their limitation, y’all need to graciously accept the “criticism” and explain that you are actively working to grow and shape the site and the suggestion will be taken into consideration. The response to this reaction will probably be, “Hey, what can I do to help?”
