OAUSA Net - April 27, 2017 - Handgun Defense against Dangerous Animals
Our very good friend, Mike Ward, KG6WSL, will be our guest this week. The net will cover a topic that many hikers, fishermen, and outdoor adventurers. may face - protection against dangerous animals. The type of dangers you may face will depend somewhat on your area, but regardless of the locale, many dangers exist, including bears, mountain lions, coyotes, wild boar, wolves, and others. While the dangers are often found in less populated rural areas, many of these animals have adapted to civilization and are found in or very near large cities. The risks are real.
Knowing your area and the types of animals you may encounter will play a part in your defensive choices, but there are many other considerations as well. Join Mike tonight for the discussion.

KK6CTT for the online check-in please. Great topic.
The system; shooter, firearm, load and load quality make shooter safe. Weight and not wanting to carry a heavy firearm because it is too bulky, uncomfortable and left behind because of this...not worth having. The below firearm is an example of an experienced shooter "rolling with the shot" but still a good example of how recoil can limit you just as much as any other factor out there. Cost of practicing to bring your skill to a level that matches the threat. Will you get enough practice to use a beast like this? Or, are you better off with a lesser round with sufficient stopping power that you can control and are willing to practice with.
Range time with my good friend in CT...Not here in CA.
