Re: GENERAL PLANNING
No generator
I do have a fridge
I also have an inReach that is capable of receiving text messages. I'll send everyone my inReach address to pass on as another way to contact us if necessary.
I'm in for working in meal pairs.
Looking forward to the remoteness and the beautiful country.

Re: GENERAL PLANNING
I have a 50qt ARB fridge which I expect to run continuously off an external battery (or two), recharged by vehicle and solar power.
I’d be happy to try to help anyone set up their APRS.

Re: Fuel (Jerry) Cans
Thanks for the info. I order a set of 4 today.JumpingCholla wrote: ↑Fri Mar 02, 2018 11:34 am I ordered four jerry cans from Deutsche Optik (per Dave's suggestion), which seems to have a decent price on what is apparently a sturdy, standard NATO can at four for $156 ($39 each). The Wavian jerry cans seem to be going for around $80 each.

However, I received notice from Deutsche Optik that their cans are on backorder for 2-4 weeks. So, if you need a few and intend to source from DO, better get your orders in.

I notice that “firewood” is not in the list of recommended items. While firewood can take up considerable space that will be used for water, fuel, and food, will we have any opportunities for evening campfires? The compressed logs are fairly efficient with space and might be an option.

GPX is easiest for me also, though I have GPSBabel and can convert most formats.

Re: GENERAL PLANNING
I used GPS Babel to convert my NG files to GPX, and I will send them your way.
I trust, from the lack of response, that no one uses the NG Topo system.

We don't need to carry firewood. And, yes, we will have campfires at night, as long as there are no fire restrictions in place. No need to bring poo logs!!!!!

BAR 10 RANCH
Given the time, we may visit the Bar 10 Ranch. In an otherwise very remote area, the Ranch is a unique and amazing oasis, offering both lodging and meals. There is nothing like it in any of the areas we will travel. The lodging consists of their "covered wagons" and the meals are amazing. We can also stock up on water, if need be.
As mentioned earlier, the Bar 10, is a drop off location for those who are doing an abbreviated rafting trip down the Colorado, through the Grand Canyon. Both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters can be seen bringing guests to the Ranch.
