Evaporative Cooling performance

Can add ice, but defeats evaporation

Conclusion
There is a fairly complex interplay between hydration, temperature, humidity, air movement (wind velocity), solar radiation, protective measures (sunscreen, clothing, shade) and your own body's acclimation and tolerance to heat
  • Be safe, acclimate slowly, know your limits, listen to your body
  • If it's very humid, only go if you can stay air conditioned or enjoy water sports
Otherwise
  • You can probably take measure to extend your activity +5 to +15 degrees
  • Hydrate regularly with water and some electrolytes
  • Avoid activity during hottest part of day (siesta!)
  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Wear appropriate hat, clothing, footwear
  • Enjoy your campfire and the stars
  • If low humidity, use evaporative cooling accessories (towels, wraps) and devices (DIY cooler)

This is a very timely topic as I had a contractor build a shed in my backyard last weekend.
The first thing he did before starting his work was to drink a liter of Pedialyte. It was his Doctors orders to protect against dehydration, especially during the hot summer months. The rest of his day required copious amounts of water.

I build this simple system to help keep cool during special events while under a Pop Up Awning. It uses a garden sprayer, a small mist system and the ability to have water close at hand. You must get the mister heads up high enough to allow the water to evaporate before it hits the ground, preferably slightly up wind.
This system can cool the surrounding air by 30 degrees F.
Always use an inline sediment filter to prevent the mist nozzles from quickly becoming clogged.
