Just thought you would all appreciate this.

I got back from and Elk hunt in Colorado (2nd Rifle in Area 501). And I must admit I did not get a Bull or a Cow (and for those of you that are familiar with the cost of an out of state Bull tag... you will really appreciate this!).

I consider it a successful hunt as I did get a spike!

Unfortunately, the "spike" is not the kind you might suspect! Nonetheless, what a wonderful trip.

I had a strange smell and occasional smoke coming from the back of the vehicle.

It turned out to be a bad seal on the axle. When I went to fix the seal I discovered the rear bearing was messed up.

The bearing replacement is not an easy repair as I was unable to find a machinist or shop with the tooling to press out the bearing.

This was a difficult repair that would have been impossible in the field.
