  • A great list but I think a good camera, tripod, lots of batteries, memory cards and, in some circumstances, something to take video if not the camera. I'm a stills guy but video is another great way to capture the moment and though I do not have a drone, I think it is another untapped resource not yet mentioned. Having used a more expensive Android based cell phone the quality of the camera can bridge the gap between convenience and lugging around a bigger and more expensive solution. Learn your modes and features of whichever platform you chose to use, it can make a big difference between getting a shot and capturing nothing but blur.
A good camera with manual settings and a tripod or a nice place to set your camera that will not move during a long exposures can make or break capturing the moment (moonlit night no additional fill in).

Another site seen that is totally different under moonlight.

  • Also, optics are great to have. Sometimes I carry binos and other times I will carry a spotting scope. I am partial to small and lightweight but there is no comparison to consumer based medium sized optics when placed against the commonly used inexpensive, compact, el cheapo, optics that really aren't bad in a pinch but for low light conditions quality optics really do make a difference.
All the best!

Hi All,

My favorite camping tools in no particular order:

1. Small Axe
2. Shovel
3. Coffee rig
4. Impact drill-driver (for lag bolt stakes)
5. Knife (I like several and can never take just 5 or 6)
6. Cast Iron and chainmail (for cleaning) and briquette chimney
7. Lantern (Kerosene or Coleman)
8. Tent/Cot/Pad/Bag (I like to stand up in the tent)
9. Folding chair and foot stool and folding table
10. ARB Fridge/Freezer
