FOOD AND PREP

Initially, I need to mention that in order to get from one remote location to another, we will occasionally pass stores where we can purchase food and supplies. For those who are relying on ice chests, we will be able to resupply you a couple of times. Once we enter the Dark Canyon area, we will not have any such opportunities. The last resupply will most likely be when we pass Mexican Hat.

Despite these opportunities, we would be imprudent to rely on this, as these stores will be small, and there is a good chance that food and supplies will be very limited. So, we will all need to purchase everything we need before we depart. In the event, however, of a forgotten item, or an ice refresh, we can take advantage of these sources.

With that in mind, lets start planning.

She said she loves to camp, but just not 10 nights in a row!!

There will be a few opportunities along the way, maybe every three days, for relatively close lodging that might provide welcome breaks for those who—unlike myself—prefer to bathe more regularly.

Mr Cholla is correct, there may be a few opportunities to obtain “traditional” lodging along the way. I should mention however, that if you are not staying at our camp. finding us (when you leave the hotel) may be a problem, especially if there is no cell phone coverage (which is the case in most of the areas we will travel), or APRS is not able to give you our correct position.

If you go this route, I would highly recommend you have ARPS running and have a copy of the projected camp locations loaded into your GPS.

NOTE If showers are the major reason for seeking alternate lodging, there will be at least two or three of us who will be bringing hot showers. More on this elsewhere, if we have any takers.
