Viewing new and active posts
Viewing new and active posts
I have a couple of concerns. First of all, the OAUSA Motto Poll and Vote for your favorite style threads constantly show up as unread even though I've scrolled through and read all of the posts within the threads.
Secondly, when I click on view active topics, I see some posts that are new that didn't show up when clicking on view new posts. So, it seems the "view new posts" is missing some new posts.
Just a heads-up, guys.

Re: Viewing new and active posts
A topic may show up on the active topics list and not be on the new posts list. This can happen when a topic has accumulated enough replies within a time period to be considered active, but hasn't had a post in days. It would show up on the active topics list because of the number of replies, but not show on the new posts list because there have not been any recent posts.BlueFJ wrote:Secondly, when I click on view active topics, I see some posts that are new that didn't show up when clicking on view new posts. well, I can read all of the posts and still see the arrow and sheet of paper icons in front of the topics I just read.

Re: Viewing new and active posts
I'll be looking at the code for these two searches in more depth tonight. The "View new posts" should be a fairly simple search from what I have seen so far. It searches for the posts that have a date and time later than the last time you visited the forum. The question I will be researching is how it determines the time you last visited the forum.

I'm using Vista Home Premium and Firefox. I log on automatically and I've set Firefox to accept cookies from oausa.net permanently. Thanks for looking into this. Take your time, Ken.

Yes. My business provides custom programming and network managed services to small and medium organizations.BlueFJ wrote:BTW, are you in IT professionally?
Can you try using Internet Explorer. I don't use Firefox, but I have read where the caching can sometimes cause a problem.
You don't need to go through all the posts. The forum only tracks usage to the topic level. If you click on the topic, it will update your visit to that topic. So click on "View new posts", click on a topic that has unread posts, then click on "View new posts" again. Does the topic still show there are unread posts?

Re: Viewing new and active posts
I tried using IE. I'm getting the same result. Let me clarify... This must have something to do with polls because it's the two poll topics that always show up as unread or new when I click on active posts, even after viewing the entire thread. Perhaps if you look at these two topics: "OAUSA Motto Poll" and "Vote for your favorite style".

Re: Viewing new and active posts
Looks like some progress has been made. I no longer see the arrow nor sheet of paper in front of the "OAUSA Motto Poll" topic, but still see them in front of the "Vote for your favorite style" topic. So, maybe if you look at the difference between these two we might be able to figure this out.
