Product Spotlight

Tonight’s product spotlight, as last weeks, can be used to prep a surface to be repaired with adhesive, but also has many other uses in the field from medical prep, general cleaning of sticky substances like tree sap and even as a fire starter.

Alcohol Swabs

Available at pharmacies and grocery stores, I much prefer the felt type pad version on the left over the folded kind.

Turns out Curad also makes a nice pad version sold at Costco. About $6 for 400.

Additional adhesives

RTV Silicones

Always choose a non corrosive, high performance silicone. The right parts show the old school vinegar smelling silicone which is corrosive. All Major manufactures make both types .

Adhesive tapes

Acrylic tapes offer a great way to adhere accessories to an uneven dashboard.

Solvent based adhesives

Hybrid adhesives work fast and on a variety of surfaces. They also offer good environmental resistance.

Original hood foam Is injected to tie the thin door skin to the stronger frame. This foam usually delaminates quickly and causes the hood skin to “Flutter” while on the road at speed. I added a special anti-flutter that eliminated the issue.

Sealing panels against leaks

The corners of truck beds are prone to leaking when a shell is installed.

I filled the 5/16” space with a very flexible sealant to eliminate a likely source of water ingress when my shell is installed.

Compressor switch repair.

The switch sleeve is badly cracked and chipped due to age and the heat of the compressor. I would suggest a hybrid adhesive like Loctite HY 4070 to keep the old part or use an epoxy putty to build a new one.
