If you know the steel you want in your knife, you can search for knives made with the desired steel at KnifeCenter.com

Just go to the KnifeCenter.com web site https://www.knifecenter.com/ and enter the blade material in the search bar and see what pops up. You might be surprised.

Here is a search for knives made of ZDP-189: https://www.knifecenter.com/listing/zdp-189-steel

In my 20's, learned how to sharpen all kinds of cutting tools, working for Greenfield / Metcut.
I had all the cool tools, microscopes and a variety of machines, I was good at it.
metalurgy, exotic steels, heat treating, carbide, ceramic and I specialized in D2 (self healing material)

I have never developed a proper feel for manual sharpening, I can do it, so so, and yes I have practiced and practiced..
I have the engineering / angles well understood, just the hand eye coordination missing..I'm not able to find the magic.......so frustrating!!
I am sitting here with my sharpee and my loup working on my edc knife.. :)
My grandpa, a barber, sharpened his own razors on leather..but I didn't get the skills passed down through genes.

Great net..thanks!!

Follow-up to my post #36 about the Sandrin tungsten carbide knife.

In this YouTube video, the presenter tries to sharpen a chipped area out of his Sandrin knife blade. 1) Despite the manufacturer’s claim that the brittleness of tungsten carbide has been reduced, the presenter’s knife shows a nice chip; there is no explanation about whether this was abuse or normal use. 2) He has a heck of a time trying to sharpen it, and finally does with a diamond stand and much elbow grease.
