Astron power supplies were mentioned, how reliable they are, and how long they last.

Well, I had a few Astron power supplies and a few Pyramid power supplies, and I have two trains of thought about how reliable they are and how long they last.

Well, one way of thinking is that they aren't very reliable, and do not last too long, and the other way of thinking is that they're very reliable and last very long.

Anyway, my experiences were, that the Astrons and Pyramids would break down on me almost every other year, and I'd need to replace the power transistors in them almost every other year, in between those two years or so, three at the most, they worked reliably, but I needed to keep replacing the power transistors...Usually one would go, but I always replaced them in pairs and the date of installation was put on them, whether I replaced them, or whether the guy at the radio repair shop would replace them.

However, the Samlex switching power supply worked for about 13 years, running almost 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

I've replaced the Samlex with a MFJ switching power supply, which is working great, and has been working great for about 6 years or so so far, so will see how long they last, as I have two of them, one with meters and one without meters.

I'll try to listen to as much of the net as I can but am working on installing an HF transceiver, automatic antenna tuner, digital power/SWR meter, and antenna in and on my SUV, so not sure when I'll be finished with that.

I should clarify. The Goodyear hose is great. The bright yellow color in the front yard is what my wife does not like.
