Our 2022 annual Field Day and Summer Fest event was a slight departure from past ones, but entirely in line with our approach to OAUSA events. This departure was, by no means, a negative, and quite to the contrary.
There are a number of purposes and benefits to Field Day, but at the core, it is an opportunity to set up an emergency radio station, in less than ideal conditions, and to make contacts at long distances (and short ones too.) As this is also a contest to get the highest number of contacts, the success of operators is also measured by how many States in which contacts can be made. Each State is divided into sections, and contacts in each section will complete that State. While we didn't win first place, we made a respectable showing, as the map below shows, including Hawaii, and two Canadian Provinces.
