OAUSA Net - January 4, 2024 - Survey Time

Post by DaveK » Thu Jan 04, 2024 6:32 pm

Survey Time

As most probably know, our net control staff has undergone some changes recently, and as a result, there are several OAUSA members who will be new net control operators. and who you will meet soon. With these new faces, we are anxious to, once again, get a pulse of those who listen, so we can get a feel for the merit of our net topics. In order to do this we need all who listen to hang around long enough to give us your opinion - what do you like, what would you like to see (or see more of), and what topics pique your interest.

We are preparing the net schedule for the first two quarters of the year and your opinions will help us to gear our discussions to address theses areas. And, of course, we need more volunteers to keep this going.

I have grown up on KPRA as a relatively new ham (2013) and it has been a main stay for me in that capacity. The Red-Eye Net, the Rescue Net and, of course, the Outdoor Adventure USA Net have been a main staple of my radio nerdiness and I hope that all who were touched by the above nets listen for the comradery and the openness of the platform, not just the content. If you want to see this net and other nets like it continue, you've got to give back to the community in whatever capacity you are able to. As a net controller, subject matter expert; as a participant, sharing your experience with the net controller during nets; as a steward of amateur radio good will, getting others involved in the "sport"; as a supporter of your local repeater, club or association (membership/renewal/donation); there is something for everyone! I hope to see this project, the OAUSA net, in spite of the winds of change, continue to provide outdoor enthusiast support and good will as it always has.

Get out more and experience the outdoors; my 2024 resolution. Even if it is right outside my door.

PS, I've been in contact with Dave, K6DTK, and it appears there are several who are willing to become new contributors to the net along with some of the old crew who set aside time for the THU night gathering. Personally, I hope to bring information about destinations, trips and tricks, product reviews, fieldcraft and firearm industry information when possible. I've loosely committed to 12 NCO nights/year and hope that with other fellow content providers we can remain on a weekly net schedule with solid content and will not have to reduce the frequency of the scheduled nets.

If you are having trouble getting into the net via EchoLink, use the "Route_66" connection.

Preview: Next week, 01/11/2024, we will spend time reviewing new firearm laws taking effect in 2024.

Recommending the UpLula Magazine Loader for those who need a more rapid pistol magazine reload or to simply save your fingers. After several dozen NRA Women on Target® events, these have been a life saver for our ammunition point volunteers. I recommend you buy a bright color so you can more easily track your loader. The all-black loaders are nice but not easy to keep track of when people "borrow" your gear at the range and the loader moves from station to station.

Right-handed – grip the UpLULA® loader as shown – best having the fingers high-up on the loader. Feed the rounds with your left.

Left-handed – grip the UpLULA® loader with you left hand – again, best having the fingers high-up on the loader. Feed the rounds with your right.
