2008-08-22 Gold Mtn, Burnt Flats, Intro to John Bull

Post by sdnative » Sat Aug 23, 2008 11:12 pm

We arrived in BB on Friday and wanted to hit the trails. Met up with Steve and Pat and set out to find dirt (and rocks).

We hit up Gold Mountain going South to North (the usual way) and ended up on 3N16. Turned left and headed down to the Burnt Flat area. Really neat area without much traffic (we didn't see a single soul). At the end it overlooks the Lucerne Valley and the cement factory. You know those big dump trucks that are some 50' tall? Well they looked like matchbox toys from up there. Next we went back up toward the 3N16 and turned onto John Bull. We turned off at 3N32 before the really hard part, but our little section was nothing to flip your nose at. :P

Nice! We just got home and finished unpacking everything. Didn't get a chance to run Gold Mountain, so we'll hit that up next time for sure. Today we ran White Mountain both directions. It was a short and sweet trail close to camp. We had a great time and looking forward to the next run in this area.

I am glad you had a good time. When I get a chance I will post up some pics from Jacoby and heartbreak.

Nice pics, sdnative. Looked like everyone had a good time. It was good to see you again - look forward to hitting some trails together next time.

Ollie gave me your VX6r manual, but you were gone before I realized whose it was - sorry. Let me know how to get it to you...

Sorry about that. We ran rattlesnake canyon down to the valley and it just didn't make sense to drive all the way back up to camp, only to leave 20 minutes later. So I just bypassed the mountain and went down cajon pass. I'll PM you my address if you just want to mail the ever-elusive manual. Many thanks.

You going to borrego-fest this year? I am already looking forward to it!

Got your message after I got home. My battery was dead and I forgot my car charger. I found Bear Valley Cutoff OK. I was expecting a more obvious sweeping fork, but saw the sign as I drove past it. Flipped a u-turn and was back on course. Thanks again. :P

Sounds great. I wanted to run WM west to east (up the steep hills), but never got the chance. Did you get your front drive axle working?

Oh yeah, we got it fixed when we got back to camp. Just had to reconnect a hose for the front axle vacuum actuator. Otherwise, White Mountain would of been much more difficult.
