Cargo Tie Downs

I couldn't take it any more. Can't stand the cargo in the rear bouncing and shifting every time the trail gets rough. I found these tie downs at my local trailer shop. They mount through the floor board and are anchored by large backing plates. They are very heavy duty and fold flat when not in use. Problem solved.

My FJ has a few of those and I could not live without them, I think there are 6 total when the back seats are folded down. Right now I have most of my stuff in one big box in the back and just tie it down with two ratcheting straps.

How was installing these? I am wondering how it would be to add a few more attachment points for flexibility.

The only hard part is making sure that there is not something in the way on the underside of the floorboard. Just as an added precaution, I undercoat the bolt and nut where it gets exposed to the elements.

DaveK makes a very important point, for those of you who are not mechanics or regularly drill into vehicles:

ALWAYS check to see what is on the other side BEFORE you start drilling !!!

And when you are sure, CHECK AGAIN.

And if drilling multiple locations for a single object, check ALL the locations before drilling any of them. I've seen many tragedies because folks were in a hurry to get 'er done !!!
