Thanks Scott, but I was wondering why BoBoNel was not able to post a picture from MySpace.

Re: where do you host your pictures?
That picture has been featured in a few sailing magazines. We were anchored in Little Harbor on the back side of Catalina Island with 3 other boats. That lightning bolt and another one after it started the fires on Catalina in July 2 years ago. Kim took the shot minutes before we battened down the hatches and prepared for one of the most impressive and scary electrical storm/squalls I have ever witnessed. 40-60 mph gusts came through the harbor from every direction over the next 2-3 hours. Spider lightning surrounded us and super heated the air to well over 100 degrees and the boats in the harbor were getting tossed around pretty good. What was most ironic was watching the fires spread over the hills and come down towards us and the Little Harbor Campground. The campers were enjoying their evening dinners and starting to light their camp fires only to have the Avalon Fire Department drive through the campground on the way to fightcruiserlarry wrote:Hey, Scott, that MySpace pic of your kids with the lightning strike is AWESOME !!!

the real fires!
Rainbow as the squall moves in.

As the lightning began to hit we yelled at the kids in the background to get of the high ground and back to camp.

These clouds reminded me of scenes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Our boat is in the middle. Good spot, but it is a very small anchorage.

The campground on shore.

Hiding from the rain on my buddies 50ft. double ender during the squall

After dark the fire started creeping over the hills towards us.

I wish I had taken more pictures but there was too much chaos going on at the time. Later that night as the danger passed we all went skinny dipping to get some relief from the stress and the heat. Fun times!
