I am leading a club run for Tierra del Sol 4WD Club of San Diego and thought I would see if there is any interest from this group. All are welcome. This is an overnight overland trip through Anza Borrego Desert SP. Please let me know directly if you would like to come along. I know it is close to BorregoFest, but you can never have too many desert weekends.
Anza Borrego Overland Run
We will travel from the south end of the park to the north, exploring several trails in series, and stay off pavement as much as possible. This will be an ‘overland’ or ‘bobtail’ run, with camping on the trail Saturday night. Bring your own food, water, and camping equipment.

What: I plan to camp overnight Friday night at Blair Valley to minimize early morning driving. We will leave from Blair Valley at 7:00 am on Saturday, November 1st. We will travel south on S-2 approximately 28 miles to the trailhead at Canyon Sin Nombre, just past Sweeney Pass. From there, we will travel on the Canyon Sin Nombre trail, see the Carrizo Stage Station, and take Diablo Dropoff into Fish Creek Wash. We will see Sandstone Canyon, then travel down Fish Creek to camp near Split Mountain. On Sunday, we will exit out Split Mountain Road, then cross over Hwy 78 west of Ocotillo Wells, and continue north on the Arroyo Salado Trail, crossing through Borrego Mountain via Buttes Pass Rd. We will continue north to the Truckhaven Trail and to S-22. At that point, we will either select from other trails in the area if time permits, or head for home.
This run will offer some steep and rocky challenges, but will mostly be travel in sandy washes with spectacular desert scenery. There are several scenic slot canyons and some optional technical challenges. Four wheel drive is required, as well as the required safety equipment as listed below. You may join us for either day if you wish. Please carry plenty of fuel, as the closest gas station to the trail is the Blue Inn, east of Ocotillo Wells.
Please RSVP to the Trail Boss above.
Required safety equipment:
Each vehicle must carry:
Tow strap (without hooks)
Fire Extinguisher
Factory Hard Top or Roll Bar
Seat Belt for each Occupant
Recovery Points Front and Rear
First Aid Kit
Ham Radio or CB Radio
