Shooting out in Anza Borrego:

Where are we aloud to shoot out there? I've always wanted to go shooting out there away just to get away from the congestion found at an indoor range. I've shot up at Rainbow and that was nice but very far and it still had a lot of people there. I'd really like to be able to go exploring and shooting out in AB. Where?

No shooting is allowed in the park but many areas of the park are surrounded by BLM managed property and shooting is allowed. Directly south of Ocotillo Wells is one such place. The BLM in El Centro (I think) manages this area and they can tell you.

I am not even sure that guns are allow at all in AB.

Iron Sights on Pacific Coast Hwy in Oceanside is a good range. It's divided into two halves... one for pistols and one for rifles. They also have a large selection of guns for sale and rent at very reasonable prices.

We have two open areas:
a pistol area with metal to 100 yards
a rifle area with metal out to 600 yards
Moore and Moore Sporting Clays is on our facility.
The LA Silhouette Club has monthly shooting competitions there out to 200 yards.
A bunch of private companies train there on private ranges that we lease.
In the classes, you get to do high speed shooting as well as shooting while moving --
under the safe control of a qualified instructor.

The rates are something like $15 for a whole day on weekends.
We have 4000 shooters a month use our facility.

Burro Canyon was pretty nice last time i went. I believe it was $10 a person, and target frames are $2 with $8 deposit. The target frames are made out of PVC pipe, and if you frag one of the pipes, they deduct a small amount from your deposit. I shot my Garand on the long range, and my 44mag on the handgun/shotgun range. Everything seems to be well maintained. Triple B Clays in Rosemead has to be the most enjoyable shooting experience ive had thus far. The parking lot is along the shooting stations, and there is food service. TBC offers trap, skeet, and sporting clays, as well as a full service shop and retail store, and gun rentals. The grounds are very well groomed with nice lush green grass at every station. Ammo is very reasonable, i purchased 75 shells at $6.25 per box. The location is great, right off the 60fwy and in the Whittier Narrows park. Iron Sites - located in Ocean side right next to the airport off of hwy 76. http://www.iron-sights.com/

they have a pistol side and a rifle side but its pretty short at only 25 yards.
They have a decent collection of guns to rent but it can get pricey because you have to buy there ammo if you rent and it ant cheap.
Other then that its not to expensive to shoot there and the people are nice.



Locally in Hemet I shoot out in Bee canyon its open land with a bunch of canyons you shoot up its free and close.

Here's my input

Indoor
American Shooting Center (San Diego, CA) -This was before I personally owned firearms, but I remember it being ok. I think they may be too casual though
LAX Firing Range (Inglewood, CA) -One of the only places nearby for me to shoot at. I've taken some tactical handgun classes here that I would recommend. On public days the clientele can be "interesting", so I try to get in, do my thing, and get out.

Outdoor
Angeles Shooting Range (Sylmar, CA) -Good facility. I mostly use the rifle benches. Slight uphill on the longest ranges, but out to 400yrds is great. Can get windy, but its usually headon and not a cross wind. I feel comfortable here.
Moore and Moore (Sylmar, CA) -Good sporting clay facility. Owners are great people and I've always enjoyed myself here. Its right next to Angeles Shooting Range.
Burro Canyon Shooting Park (Azusa, CA) -A bit far of a drive for me, but I've been here once for a shoot house training day (recommended). Lots of different ranges to reserve, and they have BBQ onsite.

Instructors
Bruce Krell -I took a precision rifle class with Bruce out in the Mojave Desert. Highly recommended. I would suggest getting yourself as skilled as possible before you go so you can get the most out of this. He will move at your speed, therefore you should increase the level at which you start the day in order to work some really cool drills. I believe he also offers lots of other classes at very reasonable rates.
Bill Beasley -I've taken a few handgun classes with Bill's group. It was very useful and will change your perspective on how dynamic a tactical engagement is. I almost hate going to a firing range now because you begin to realize how "manufactured" a firing line is and you want to practice useful movements. Rates are very reasonable as well.
