Does that unit get power from the bike or do you have to change out batteries?

I have a power cord that is (or will be) hardwired to the wiring harness. Ktm has two jacks as part of the factory harness for such things.

I have a power cord that is (or will be) hardwired to the wiring harness. Ktm has two jacks as part of the factory harness for such things.

Does the bike/cord convert the voltage to 12V or does the unit only require 6V? I haven't worked on a bike in a long time but the last I new I believe they were a 6V system.

The 950R is 12v and has a decent charging system. I think some of the thumpers are too weak in the charging department to run much. I believe (although not tested yet) that I will be able to run the GPS and heated grips and a HAM.

NavyFJ's friend visited us at BorregoFest on his new KTM. It may have been a new 990 KTM Adventure. It was already decked out with fairing, GPS and bags. It was pretty sweet.

Did I mention how jealous I am???

This thing looks so cool! I don't know much about motorcycles but I am temped to ask where you go with such a thing. My guess about the answer is "Anywhere I want!" but I mean, are there specific motorcycle trails in SoCal or do you just go the same places we do with the trucks? I usually see people on motorcycles off in their own segregated areas with quads or whatever but this machine looks like a different thing than those.

You are correct, the short answer is indeed "anywhere I want". Ultimately, this bike will be set up as an adventure bike, so anywhere the trucks go it will go. I find that being on a motorcycle will also allow me to go additional places, where trucks can't fit or are not allowed. Also, traveling on a motorcycle (IMO) is just about the most "personal" way to travel and still cover a good amount of ground.
