Holcomb trail repair efforts

Post by aw12345 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 5:34 pm

Saturday I went and helped MJR members with the repair effort of the Holcomb trail, this is the third time I helped with the trail repair effort. We are making steady progress but more work is still needed.
Here are some pictures of the repair efforts

Great pics - Impressive work you guys are doing on the Holcomb trail - we all thank you for your efforts...

The chicken-wire rock bundles that you've created - I assume they are to stabilize / reduce trail erosion. Are they going to be covered with dirt, or left as-is ?

Is there an ETA for the re-opening of that trail ?

From what I understand somewhere this coming summer.
The chain link baskets are there to keep the trail from washing away. those baskets hold about 20 trailers full of rocks.
Darn that was a lot of work. Next is a couple more rock gardens and a gate keeper of some sort on the east side.
The west has a nice rock garden to keep it challenging that might even get some bigger rocks.

2 members from the So cal Tacoma club came out and helped us also one of them, Dennis shot some pretty awesome pics, that also shows a lot of the devastation that last years fires caused.
Great job Dennis

Those are some great pictures. You guys look like you worked your butts off and the group shop when the sun is setting is awesome. What's your assessment of how much of the Holcomb trail is in the burn area?

Quite a lot of holcomb got burned, which is a crying shame. I ran part of the trail in the late spring of 2007 and it was a gorgeous area, now most of it is nothing but black tree stumps see the link for the pictures of Dennis he kinda caught the spirit of the place.
