Mojve Road over Thanksgiving
Mojve Road over Thanksgiving
Over the Thanksgiving weekend we took 5 rigs and ran the Mojave Road from east to west. It was a great time, the weather was perfect. We spent the night at the Avi, and hit the trail at about 9:00 AM Friday. We ran just over 50 miles on Friday and headed down black canyon road and camped at Hole in the Wall campground. Saturday morning we explored around Hole in the Wall for a bet and were back on the Mojave Road about 11:00 AM. At about mile 85 we found a very cool camp just on the other side of the lava flow from the road. Sunday we finished the trail, based on some reports from other travelers on Saturday we attempted Soda (not so) dry lake. Not sure I would try it again in that condition. It was very slick and thick mud. There were a few spots that we did not think we could continue. Thankfully we all made it through. We did pass a very stuck truck about half way. I think it was a stock Toyota Tacoma. Not sure because it was buried up to its frame and we were not stopping to look.
Here are some pictures from the road.

Very nice pictures, looks like a great family trip, also looks like your dad managed to get the most possible mud on his Jeep.
On the bright side the somewhat wet conditions would have kept the dust down. Will have to make this trip somewhere in the near future

OMG! Those are some awesome pics, the last two have to be some of the best mud pics ever! In the very last pic I envisioned the jeep shaking all the mud off like a dog would after a bath!
Did you guys cook anything special for Thanksgiving?
Where is this? I need coordinates please

Great post, go McFamily go!

Re: Mojve Road over Thanksgiving
Wow - that looks like way to much fun for just one family...
Glad to see everyone made it across Soda Lake without tragedy. If you had decided not to cross the lake, what were your options ?
Looking forward to hitting the Mojave Road Trail again soon....

Looks like a very fun adventure... Thanks for sharing this. I haven't seen mud on a vehicle since watching the mud boggs back home at the county fairs. I bet you're still trying to get all that off.

I think we would have taken Kelbaker Road to the 15 and then take Razor Road back to the Mojave Road.
