Jon Holder from Irvine CA

Post by jdholder » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:38 am

Just a note of introduction. My name is Jon and I live in Orange County California. I grew up here, with parents from the deep south, who taught me much about the out doors. We travelled extensively in Baja during my teens and twenties pushing deep into the untravelled areas.

With 2 kids who are now "camping age" (8 and 10), I have started to introduce us to much of what California has to offer that is not paved and groomed. Literally this summer we started venturing out.

I have always loved trucks and driving off road, and with a large family, I have built a 2001 Ford Excursion - luxo barge cruising camping machine. For being 10,000 lbs, it's pretty capable.

Looking forward to meeting folks and sharing off highway, camping, expedition adventures.

Hold the 'h'

Post by BruisedFJ » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:51 am

From one Jon to another, welcome. Having an 'h' in Jon is just wasteful, right BorregoWrangler. ;)

I'm new to OAUSA as well, but I've been here long enough to tell you this is a great group of people, even those named John (with the 'h'), like BorregoWrangler referred to above, who led one of the recent trail runs in Anza Borrego. :P

Looking forward to seeing you on the trail and hearing you on comms.

Welcome to the site John (with an "h"... ).

Your Excursion looks a little more than just "capable" - the equipment list is pretty impressive. Is that an off-road / military trailer you're pulling behind it ?? Nice...

Yeah, you'll get along with the folks here just fine....

Hi Jon-

Welcome to OAUSA thanks for checking in. Nice rig and trailer, lucky kids. :D Looking forward to seeing that beast in action, maybe you should run out to Holy Jim to check the puddles, it's getting deep out there.

Thanks for the welcomes! Looks like a good group.

The trailer is a custom built 416 style (although larger) camping trailer. It has 3 ten gallon water tanks, a roof top tent, swing away spare tire carrier, 2 batteries, onboard fridge (110 liter Waeco) and 37" tires. It fits with my style of "if you are going to do it, you might as well do it big". I bought it from a friend of mine who actually built/had it built. It's not an Adventure Trailer, but it looks like one of theirs.

See you all out on the trail!
