2 meter SSB?

I measured the distance after our contact and it was a bit less that I had thought - about 32 miles. Ok for communicating without the benefit of a repeater. Even better when you consider that neither of us has the antennas set up optimally and I was mobile.

Best of all, there was a hill between us that we were able to communicate around (somewhere around Rose Hills, La Puente). The elevation profile below shows this hill (with the yellow dot on top) which was directly between us.

Not bad for a start and certainly enough to get some interest in a sideband net going.
