I'm not nearly finished with my truck. In fact it seems that I finish one project on it only to add 2 or 3 more to my list.
I made a rule for myself before the week long trip into remote Northern Arizona last October. The rule was that all truck modifications and upgrades must be completed a month before I leave. I did not want one of my newly completed projects to have a problem and ruin the trip. Those 30 days before the trip served to "shake out" any last minute issues with anything I had recently modified.

Re: Planning Modifications Before Expeditions
That definitely sounds like a good idea. I'm considering going on the Parashant trip but I want to get the EFI installed on my rig before I go. Even though the conversion has been well tested by others it would be good to give myself at least a month of shake down time to make sure there are no problems.
Converting to EFI on a 37 year old carbureted rig is a matter of trading one set of potential problems for another. The Zenith carbs have some known issues which are generally easy to deal with on the trail but the EFI will be more reliable, provide longer engine life, better fuel economy, etc. but if you loose the engine management system you're completely dead.

I try never to change things close to a trail run....
