Ham Radio Test Session and M&G (Bass Pro Shop)
Ham Radio Test Session and M&G (Bass Pro Shop)
We have arranged for an ARRL ham radio test session to be held at the Bass Pro Shop in Rancho Cucamonga on April 25th. This will be a great opportunity for those thinking of getting their ham radio license or upgrading their existing license and to meet others from the OAUSA community.
The standard ARRL testing fee of $15 will apply. The tests will be conducted in the Bass Pro Shop meeting room which is on the 2nd floor near the Fine Gun Room. Testing hours will be announced later.
Now is the time to start studying for that license or upgrade you've been thinking about,
We need a count of people who will be taking advantage of this ARRL ham radio testing opportunity so please reply to this post or drop me a PM if you are considering attending.

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
This is a great opportunity for those contemplating becoming a licensed amateur to get off their rears and start studying - with an end goal in mind.
Might be a good time to hold a meet and great in the parking lot, too...

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
There seem to be a conflict with the Parashant trip and the possibility of taking the Ham Radio Test.

If you don't know where your going, any road will get you there.
Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
Question for those in the know... If I upgrade from technician to general, can I keep my same call sign?

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
The hardest part of setting up the test session was de-conflicting all the various schedules. That weekend seemed to affect the fewest people. I don't know how many people going on the Parashant trip would be testing but it couldn't be than two or three at the most. It also coincides with Moose Anderson Days which is the big annual Jawbone Canyon cleanup event. AFAIK that is the only "big" off roading event in Southern California that day.
As far as the call signs go you have the option or keeping your old call sign or getting a new one when you upgrade into a class that allows shorter signs. It used to be a big deal to have a 1x3 call sign but the FCC ran out of those years ago. Now the best you can go for is a 2x2 as an Extra Class. There are also vanity call signs but I haven't kept up on the rules regarding those.

Just to clairify a couple of points on the Ham Radio Test Session -
