Aug 20, 2009 - Getting Ready

Post by traveltoad » Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:10 am

In previous nets, we have talked about things to bring - tools, camping equipment, cooking gear, personal safety, etc - now you spent the money and have it all. It's time to head out on that big trip. Let's talk about pre-trip inspection routines and checklists.

There are many different vehicles represented on this board (on road, off road, 4 wheels and 2 wheels) and we all have slightly different priorities. No list is too big, no detail too small.

As I am leaving for a 10 day trip to the Four Corners area, I will start off with my inspection list. But everyone can (and should) join in, we all can learn a thing or two.

BTW... this need not be limited to vehicle check lists. The conversation can cover any number of topics that could fall under the umbrella topic of getting ready.

So those who suffered through the very short net know that my radio was not functioning correctly. As it turns out the cooling fan stopped functioning. A new radio is in the truck for my trip and the old radio will go in for repairs. I guess 5 years in a 4x4 was about all an Icom IC-208 could handle.

Thanks to those who stuck with it for as long as my Netbook battery lasted on Echolink. I'll try in again soon.
