ARRL September VHF QSO Party

Post by hmfigueroa » Sat Sep 05, 2009 7:10 am

Some of you have some great mutli mode radios. The ARRL September VHF QSO Party is an excellent opportunity to put that radio to use and see just how far you can communicate on VHF. http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2009/09/01/11048/?nc=1

The party runs from 1800 UTC Saturday, September 12 through 0300 UTC Monday, September 14.

For Los Angeles time UTC/GMT -7 hours +1 hour for Daylight Savings time. That would be Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 1100 AM Local time to September 13, 2009 at 8:00 PM Local time. I am burned out so do not rely on my math. Please give it an hour in either direction until I wake up and verify. Or look at this site http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html Hey that was pretty close . . .perfect :D

There are a few things you will need:
[listitem]Your maidenhead grid square try this map to locate where you may operate from http://f6fvy.free.fr/qthLocator/fullScreen.php, just click on the map and read the QTH locator. It is fun to work as a rover station moving between several grid squares it helps greatly in accumulating points.[/listitem]
[listitem]da rules see http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/sepvhf.html[/listitem]
[listitem]and something with which to log could be paper and pencil or a computer program[/listitem]

Directional antennas help a lot but are not necessary. Amplifiers help a lot but are not necessary, Height helps a lot but is not necessary. APRS helps but is not necessary. Just get out there and have some fun!

There is a lot of information so take a good look at the links.

Hector -

The start up time coincides with our APRS meeting in Costa Mesa on Sept. 12th, so maybe you can show us a few pointers there, too
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear really bright, until they start talking
