Re: 2009 BorregoFest Arroyo Tapiado to Hapaha Flats Report
What a great day. The weather was fantastic, not too hot but a little dusty.
We had nine vehicles. A couple of 80-series, a few FJs and two Jeeps to keep it interesting. At least one of the FJs was 2wd, but you would never know it. Fantastic job by all in the rough stuff. We did have to break out the winch once, but we knew that ahead of time.
We started out in Vallecito Wash off of the S2. Stopped at Palm Spring for a second, then made our way over to Arroyo Tapiado. Looked for the Hollywood and Vine street sign, but it was gone. Ended up stopping at one of the Mud Caves, complete with skylights and even a resident bat. After that we headed over to Arroyo Seco Del Diablo and down the Diablo dropoff and out to Fish Creek. Hung a left and ran what's left of Sandstone Canyon
We had a fantastic lunch in a secluded niche in Sandstone Canyon, with enough shade and a even a slight breeze.
Back on the trail, we went up to Hapaha Flats by Split Rock and over to the base of Pinyon Dropoff. On the way back out, we ran into a couple of Jeeps, one of which was laying on its back, side up against the hill. Luckily no one from our group.
It was getting late at this point and we couldn't resist the call of a huge potluck, so we made haste out through Split Mountain and back to camp.
It was a fantastic, but long day. No one was complaining though
I didn't get many pics, so i hope the other can post some up...

Thanks Sd Native for leading us thorugh these trails. My wife and I had a lot of fun. I am looking forward to put a Kaymar bumper in my 80 series now that I saw yours. I will post some pictures as well later this week.

Nice pics. Looks like you had a good run there, Eric. But hey, was the guy who flopped his rig taking advice from you?
Just kidding!

Ha Ha. I could insert a Jeep vs. Toyota joke here, but I wont.

Aw, the Jeep just got tired and wanted to take a nap!
Glad nobody got hurt.
