2010-03-19-21 Mojave Nomads

Post by unwiredadventures » Thu Mar 25, 2010 7:10 pm

This last weekend we wandered around the area West of the Mojave National Preserve. My main goal was to visit the Mysterious Mojave Megaphone and Broadwell Dry Lake.

We camped Friday night at Afton Canyon Campground.
The next day we crossed the Mojave River into Afton Canyon:

Drove through Beautiful Afton Canyon:

While in Afton Canyon we visited the mud caves and the buried train car.

Further South, the Mesquite Springs Petroglyphs:

Then the Mysterious Mojave Megaphone. When was it installed? Who did it?

2nd night "Bush Camping"

Then drove out to the I-40 via Broadwell Dry Lake:

Before going home we had a good meal at the Ludlow Cafe.

GReat pics - looks like the Mojave River was higher than I've seen it in a while  ....

Do you have the coordinates for the Mojave Megaphone ? I've never heard of it before, and I'd love to see it in person.... :D

Megaphone is here: lat 35.0053 lon -116.1963

Most all my photos are geotagged. If you click on any of my photos it'll take you to Flickr where you'll see a "Map" link where the coordinates are displayed.

I love that first picture! Looks alot deeper than when I was out there. There's so much to see out in the Mojave. Looking forward to getting out there again. Thanks for sharing.
