Monache Meadows – July 30- Aug 1, 2010

Post by DennisDawg » Wed Sep 29, 2010 9:36 am

Hello Folks! Well, life has been very, very busy for the last few months and I have not had a lot of time to do anything, no Adventure Net, forum posting or anything! After several months of unemployed fun and time to do whatever, I got a job, went to work for long hours and well . . .bla. so anyway, time to get caught up.

So, back in July we went up to Monache Meadows. Many in our group met up Friday night outside Pearsonville at Chimney Peak Campgound which was remarkably good. It had nicely wooded camp sites and we met to nice people from the United Kingdom who were camping around the US.

Saturday morning it was down to Pearsonville where the Shell station had no ice and neither did anyplace else along the way! Undaunted we continued on to Monache under blue skies. We go in and made camp near the river where the rest of the day was spent fishing, wading about and just relaxing. Some tried their skills at fire starting without matches or lighters, the ancient way. They nearly were successful and vow to learn this skill!

After a great night in camp and a bit more fishing and fun in the morning, we packed up and headed for home! A few checked into Randsburg on the way back for some cool refreshments and food at the General Store.

Looks like a great trip. Did I see some fishing going on? It was hard to see since I could only see thumbnails of the photos. It appears a login is required to see larger images.

I've always wanted to go there. Perhaps next summer.

I fixed the thumbnails only problem, happened when I upgraded the version today! Arg.

Anyway, yes there is a lot of fishing up there, fly or float fly. They hunt in season up there as well. Very pretty places to camp and accessible for most. More of a chill kind of trip than hard core anything. Good for kids as well!!!!

And, as for employed again, both my wife and I got laid off by the same company and then found jobs again. It was a trying time in a way but it actually worked out better than how it was in many ways so, well, life goes on.

Too busy these days though!!! Arg!!!

Oh man, sorry to hear about being unemployed. I can relate. Love the job I have now, though.

Anyway, thanks for the report. That really is some beautiful country! When you can get some fishing in on these kind of trips, it make it so much better! For me at least.

Also, congrats on you and your wife finding work again!

Thanks! My wife getting laid off was a surprise. I actually has several month’s warning. We’d both been there about 18 years, met there in fact, so it held some sentimental meaning . . . and then the hammer!

While unemployed I had some fun though, so it is all good!

Glad it worked out for you as well!!!!

Looks like a great place. I'll have to look into making a family run up there. I've been having a hard time lately finding spots where the girls can get some enjoyment out of being there.

One nice thing about Monache Meadows is that Springs comes late, so there are wonderful flowers up there until mid summer, very pretty with great views. If you camp in the “river campsites” at the last water crossing, you can walk down along the water there and not far is a very spectacular area for fishing, just looking and enjoying. Going upstream from the camps there, you will find a small but silted damn, but a not to be area in there for wading about a little from there down through camp.

There are fire rings in the camp sites. The first three or so sites are the best, bigger and less people. but, there are also other places to camp.

A great place to escape the heat down here in summer, by going up there!

If you stage everyone at Chimney Peak on the night before, it is cooler up there (than down on the 395) and on the way for a Firday night stop. You can hit Randsburg’s repeater from there (in camp) and folks coming into Victorville can hit it as well so you can all communicate from just about the Cajon Pass to Pearsonville and beyond.
